It’s like the movie Jumunji – an escaped zebra was spotted running through a residential area after making a bid for freedom from a local petting zoo.
In the Robin Williams film, a hoard of jungle animals magically appear from a mysterious board game, and are seen tearing up a small town.
But this time, it was just a pair of zebras taking in a morning gallop. Thankfully no one was hurt and they were quickly rounded up by staff, police and other experts.
The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office says it received calls from residents in the town of Leesburg, Virginia, reporting zebras on the loose.
Police patrols battled to prevent the startled animals from being struck by passing bemused motorists.
Animal control experts were summoned and together the pair were finally brought under control with tranquilisers and taken back to the zoo.
The owner of the Leesburg Animal Park says the zebras got loose when two workers not affiliated with the park accidentally left a gate open.
Last year, a serval African wild cat escaped from the same place and was hit by a car.
